Flow League

Flow League 2011 Presented by Billabong

The first ever Flow League is coming to Wave House Sentosa!

Starting July 12th the Flow League will give local riders of all skill levels a chance to compete and show their moves. The league will have 8 teams each with 5 riders per team ranging from experts to beginners. Body boarders are also welcome to join the action, as each team will require one. Once a week teams will compete head to head with each skill level riding against the other. Team points will be added up to show which team knows how to flow the best. The top 4 teams will compete in the Flow Offs on August 25th to determine the league champs.

The goal of the Flow League is to bring the local flow community together and help each other to improve their skills and grow the sport of flowriding in Singapore. The Flow League will give aspiring riders good practice for major competitions and at the same time give the amateur riders a chance to get involved.

The Flow League is presented by Billabong who has continued to show their support and help take the sport of flowriding in Singapore to the next level.

 

Team Format

  • There will be 8 teams made up of 5 riders per team
  • Each rider will represent a different skill level  (1-5) see below for skill level details
  • Each team will nominate a team captain who will be responsible for submitting their team roster every Tuesday
  • Team captains will also be responsible for finding substitutions when a team rider cannot make it. See below for sub details
  • All teams must be approved by the Flow League committee to ensure the riders and in the appropriate skill level

 

Competition Format

  • The league will be run on a round-robin format
  • Each team will compete against each other once
  • All teams will be ranked on a win/loss ratio
  • Team A and Team B will compete on FlowRider at the same time, with each skill level head to head. (Team A - Level 1 Rider will compete against Team B - Level 1 Rider, etc)
  • After all teams compete against one another (7 week period), the top 4 teams will qualify for the "Flow-Offs" where they will compete against one another once again to get the final standings
  • In the case of a tie, whoever won the heat between them will go through. If there is still a tie, then the team points will be the tiebreaker.

 

Heat Format

  • Each rider gets 2 runs @ 40 seconds long
  • If rider falls during run, they may jump back on if they have time left. If they fall more than twice, they run is over
  • Each rider in the team will contribute his or her 2 run score towards the team total.

 

Skill Level

Level 1 / Expert  (competed in expert division before)
Riders who can perform 3 of the following tricks:

  • Ride switch well
  • kick flip
  • 360 shuvit
  • ollie 180
  • big spin    
  • acid drop

Level 2 / Advanced (competed in amateur division before)
Riders who can perform 3 of the following tricks:

  • ride switch      
  • shuvit      
  • ollie
  • 360 spin    
  • nozzle stall      
  • drop in from top

Level 3 / Intermediate  
Riders who can do 2 of the following moves;

  • self load         
  • carve well heel side/toe side  
  • 360 spin
  • ollie

Level 4 / Beginner 
Riders who are still learning the basics, may still need the rope

Level 5 / Body Board
Riders that perform the basic body board maneuvers on both prone and DK style

 

Substitutions

All substitutions must be approved at least 15 minutes prior to heats starting. All Substitutes must pay a $5 fee prior to riding each day they substitute

  • A rider may only substitute for ONE team per night
  • Level 1 and 2 riders are not eligible to substitute if they are already part of a team
  • Level 3 and 4 riders from another team can substitute ONLY if they move up a skill level.
